The record preserves the source, definition, reconciliation, approver, and reasoning behind what the business accepted.

A concrete disagreement
The operating close and accounting close may use different timing, inclusion rules, or purposes. Flattening them into one unexplained number destroys meaning.
The operator states whether the number is for staffing, financial close, lender reporting, or another decision.
The operator names which reading governs that purpose without pretending the other reading is false.
Any difference is reconciled under an approved rule, with the approver and reasoning kept.
The accepted number remains traceable to its source rows and the declaration that made it authoritative.
