Oracle Health — AI-powered patient portal

Plain-language explanations of diagnoses, labs, and treatment options, grounded in the patient’s own record, with AI-generated text visually marked and guardrails against giving medical advice. The 2025 announcement named the underlying frontier-model provider; the general-availability release refers only to “frontier models.”

Position: Hosts the record on behalf of health systems; the data belongs to the patient and the provider organization.
OpenAI — ChatGPT Health
Opened to all U.S. adults July 23, 2026
Lets a person connect health-app data and hospital records — including records held in other vendors’ systems — into a conversational interface OpenAI controls, without any new relationship with the system that holds the record.
Position: Hosts none of the clinical record. Connects to it, and still becomes the surface the question is asked to.
Ownership settles export. It does not settle interpretation.
Ownership arguments settle who may access and export data. They do not settle who the operator talks to first. An operator can hold complete, exportable ownership of its record and still route “what does this mean” through whatever assistant is already sitting on top of the system it opens each morning — because it is already there, already connected, and requires no new vendor relationship.
Interpretation is an act of governance, not a feature. The question an operator should ask a prospective interface is not “can I get my data out” but “whose definitions are you using, who approved them, and can I see the lineage back to source.” When systems disagree, the operator governs — including when the disagreement is between two explanations of the same record.
Five questions to put to any assistant that explains your numbers
- 1.When this assistant explains a number, can I see every source system it drew from, and the rule that decided which one won?
- 2.Who approved the definitions it answers with — my finance and clinical leadership, or the vendor?
- 3.If I move to a different system next year, does the interpretation layer come with me, or does it stay with the host?
- 4.Does the same access this vendor gives its own assistant extend to an interface I authorize?
- 5.When two systems disagree, does the assistant tell me, or does it pick one silently?
