Do I need to replace my EHR to use AI? No.
Replacing your clinical system is not a precondition for using AI. Governed input is. Keep the EHR you run today, and give every agent definitions the operator approved, a declared source of authority, reconciliation done once, lineage on every number, and explicit permission.

- An agent cannot answer "what is our occupancy" until the operator has said which definition of occupancy the business is accountable to. Without that, AI produces a confident number nobody will sign.
- When census, clinical, payroll and billing each hold a legitimate version of the same measure, someone has to have declared which one governs. That declaration is an operator decision, not a model output.
- Reconcile once under governed rules and stop re-reconciling downstream. Otherwise every dashboard, every agent and every board pack re-derives its own version of the truth.
- An answer without lineage is not evidence. Every number an agent reads should carry where it came from, which definition produced it and who accepted it.
- Readability is not permission. The operator declares what any agent may read, act on, and escalate. Absence of a grant is a denial.
